About Our Founder

Angelia Powell

Yogol Travel & Events

CEO, and Co-Founder

Meet Angelia Powell Founder of the Y.O.G.O.L Travel & Events Group (aka Yogol Travel Clique).  Angelia  is a certified Travel consultant, CLIA, and IGTAA (International Group Travel Agents Association) member.  Her love of travel began with her Mother Nita, who was the original adventurer of her family, a real mover and shaker, and fearless traveler, who made it a priority to raise diverse, well rounded daughters, exposing them to a collage of cultures, arts, and various travel destinations at a very early age. Through her mother, a seed was planted that encouraged her to want to experience the world, learn local history, understand different cultures, and food.  However, she grew up to become a devoted wife, and mother whose time was balanced between her family, and a career.

Angelia’s mother became very ill in 2015, and was unable to move around freely due to her inability to move one side of her body. She would often sit and look out of the window, and reminisce about the places she had been, and breathe sighs of regret for not going to the places she put off for later. Not being able to travel abroad, or  visit the casinos (which was one of her favorite things to do) it became so unbearable, that she would often, ask the doctors about ordering her a special wheelchair, so then all she need is a ride to the airport, and she could take from there (laughing).  Angelia has a vivid memory of what would come to be one of the last conversationswith her Mom.

She said “I’m very proud you, you for survived a divorce, becoming a single parent, raising my granddaughters by yourself, paying their way through college without even a Pell Grant to help you.  But I don’ like what I’m seeing, all you talk about is work, and If it’s not work you are wrapped up in your grandchildren. But you never talk about anything you are doing for yourself. The child I raised loved getting out there, and was always seeking ways to do what others felt was against the grain or just plain crazy. You are your mother’s daughter,  so I know you don’t understand: “you shouldn’t”, “you better not”, “you’re not supposed to”, “black people don’t”. You have always marched to the beat of your own drum, and now that your children are grown, married, and have families of their own, what are you waiting for? Oh, you are you waiting until your A*% got one foot in the grave and the other on a damn banana peel huh?  Well look at me, and get a clear understanding that time waits for no one, and you aren’t getting any younger. It’s time to get your behind up and start doing the things that make you happy.  You only got one life to live… live it, or watch it pass you by.”

After Angelia’s youngest daughter graduated from high school, she threw up the deuces and jumped on the first thing floating out of the country alone.  When she thinks about that trip,  she wonders why she wasn’t afraid, instead she remembers how liberating, and peaceful she felt. She opted to stay in a Hostel, away from the tourist areas and pretty much ate, and lived like those around her.  This was the first of many solo trips she would take. Often going to places alone where she didn’t understand, or speak a word of the local language.  However, after a few trips she realized she hadn’t been living, she was just existing.  She had fallen in love with the way she felt when she is walking, talking, and making friends with the people she met in various countries, and how amazing it was experiencing their cultures and their way of living first hand. She often pushes past her comfort zone and seeks out different high adrenaline activities like sky diving, scuba diving, paragliding, bungee jumping etc. Her personal travel ritual consists of a visit to a spa or some type of pampering service, and a stiff drink, so she can both marvel at her accomplishment of the day, and depending on the activity laugh at her adventurous spirit and ask herself “What the hell were you thinking” (laughing).

For Angelia , the places she sees, and the things she does are not bucket list items, instead she sees being immersed in different cultures, taking on memorable activities, and/or doing things you never thought you would have the balls to do, then rewarding, or spoiling yourself with some form of relaxation, is truly living your best life, and being best you.  So, in 2016 she began preparing to retire from her career of 20 years in the Banking, and Finance arena, where she worked as a Anti Money Laundering Investigator, and began to pursue her travel journey with other like-minded people who share the same zest for life, and the world.

Sadly, her mom lost her battle with Endometrial Cancer a short time after that conversation and was laid to rest on 07/14/2017, with her mom’s advice in mind Yogol Travel was created.  I’m sure you have already guessed the abbreviation Y.O.G.O.L. means You Only Get One Life. Angelia and her sister make it a point to live like they are swinging from the chandeliers every chance they get, share their thirst for life with others in hope of giving them the courage to get out and experience the world and all its beauty.
